Let's face it, we all love designer clothes. The problem always was affording the fancy duds. Problem solved my friends! Vera Wang officially launched her Simply Vera ready-to-wear clothing line at Kohl's department stores. This glamorous collection comes from a designer with a very impressive resume. Vera Wang has spent more than 25 years in the fashion industry. After her sixteen-year tenure at Vogue, as the Senior Fashion Editor, Wang served as a design director for Ralph Lauren.
In 1990, she ventured out on her own, opening a luxury salon in the Carlyle Hotel in New York City to showcase her bridal collection. The name Vera Wang became synonymous with wedding dresses and it was only a matter of time that she branched out and started to design more cutting-edge women's fashion.
The Vera Wang label quickly took off, earning praise from fashion's finest for its deluxe fabrics, beautiful detailing and modern interpretation of classic lines.
Wang's ready-to-wear line showcases her presence in fashion beyond bridal. This was evident in her 2008 Spring/Summer collection at New York's Fashion Week in Bryant Park. The collection featured dark colors, (rusts, grays, black) a hint of metallic and lots of layered, blousy tops.
Sky's the limit for Wang as she continues to challenge herself as a designer by pursuing a fragrance line and by designing some fine jewelry, eyewear and footwear. Her latest venture is a home collection that includes bedding with intricate detail, china, stemware and flatware.
While most other designers display their ready-to-wear collections at high-end department stores like Nordstrom's and Neiman Marcus, Wang is taking her talents to Kohl's.
The relatively low-priced Simply Vera line, featuring skirts for $50 and handbags up to $160, is Kohl's first guest designer line in the company's history. The Simply Vera clothing (sizes 4-16 and S-XL) is fashionable with lots of layering pieces including leggings and bubble skirts that still have the feminine details that has become Wang's mark. Unlike some other designers, Wang doesn't stray from her signature styles, despite the discounted prices.
Wang isn't the first designer to take a stroll down discount lane. Target picked up Isaac Mizrahi, H&M offers M by Madonna and brings in moderately priced lines from big-name designers like Stella McCartney.
Wang, along with her designer counterparts, has made designer clothing affordable to the average woman. Credit cards of the world rejoice!
