Recently, I had a chance to correspond with the England native band Brazen. They're very well known in the Portsmouthe area and generally around Great Britain, but this is the first time they've ever stepped out for an interview in the States. These guys form one amazing group and were more than happy to share their story with the Kiwibox team. So without further adieu ... Introducing Brazen!
Brazen is made up of four guys who were brought together by mutual friends. Pete Middleton - Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar, Paul Harris - Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals, Pete Lavender - Bass Guitar/Backing Vocals and Alex Manning - Drums & Percussion.
What is your background? (Who are you and your band members? Tell your story)
I (Paul), Pete Middleton and Alex met at college. I became good friends with Pete after finding common ground with an
interest in music and discovered him and Alex played together in a group. Things evolved from there through college. We played with various people originally under name The Lights and became good friends in the process.
As college came to an end, the three of us stuck together, but situations changed and direction for the future was a bit unclear. Just as it looked like we may have been calling it a day, Pete heard through friends of Pete Lavender (someone he knew in school) that played bass and may be looking to play in a group.
So, phone numbers exchanged we found ourselves adding a whole new essential element to the group. After jamming with Pete L (Two Pete's can get confusing I know), our sound turned from softer rock (that we had played at college) to a much harder, forceful sound... and what's better we loved what was happening. This led to our name change to Brazen and a whole new beginning...
After writing a couple of initial basic tracks we got down our local studio to get something to show for it. As the CD got around friends, I got in touch with a friend through family named Tim Charlton. Tim works as a songwriter, bassist in a professional function band, mixing engineer and is a respectable producer getting more recognition in the music industry every day.
After liking what we were doing and firing various emails back and forth, Tim first wanted to have a shot at remixing our track he heard to see what we thought. We arranged for this to happen and Tim did a great job despite the poor recording.
Shortly after we ended up arranging to record 2 new tracks and Tim would work with us from start to finish on these to get fully professional recordings. This was an enjoyable experience and our first two professional tracks were made (Separate Lives & To the City on our Myspace). After this outcome, Tim has now pretty much become the fifth member as our producer and is working with us through 2007 to bring a fifteen track demo together. We aim to be gigging more in 2008 and promoting this material.
