Known for their raunchy rom-coms (There's Something About Mary, Shallow Hal) made to please both sexes, the Farrelly brothers' latest project is an updated remake of Neil Simon's 1972 classic, The Heartbreak Kid. Instead of Jewish New Yorker Lenny (Charles Grodin) unexpectedly finding love on his honeymoon with a rich leggy blond (Cybill Shephard) in the original, we find a desperate San Francisco man (Ben Stiller) who ditches his bitchy bride (Malin Akerman) in favor of a cute southern brunette. And that raunchiness I mentioned earlier? It's on full blast.
The awkward salt and pepper coiffed sporting goods store owner, Eddie, is amazed when Lila gives him the time of day. She's gorgeous, she's totally passionate about her environmental job, and she's a snappy dresser to boot. The couple's six week courtship almost comes to an abrupt end when Lila finds out her job is relocating her halfway across the planet. But there's a loophole here: the company doesn't relocate married couples. After consulting with his super-whipped married best friend (Rob Corddry) and his dad (Jerry Stiller), Eddie pops the question and the happy newlyweds are off to their honeymoon in Mexico faster than you can say elope.
