Gift-giving is my favorite part of the Christmas holidays. I love spending hours pouring over store advertisements and searching online for the perfect gift. Unfortunately, though, impulse has always got the better of me. No matter how much I'd planned and budgeted, I always ended up picking up a last-minute gift or adding things on to my list that would enviably blow the budget - and my credit card would end up getting a workout. This year, with student loan payments kicking in and my car on the fritz, I knew something had to change.
When I sat down and figured out what I could afford - after living expenses and student loan payments - it was a dismal $50, which looked alright until I realized I had to buy for my Mom, Dad, brother, sister, Grandma, boyfriend and best friend. I knew then, this was going to be a project.
