Grab a controller and round-up up the troops: rather than throwing on a DVD this weekend, why not shake things up with a little friendly competition and play some of the coolest multiplayer games ever made? Here's the biggest crowd-pleasing games for your next bash.

The classic party video games for friends has always been hands down the "oldies." Mario Party and Mario Kart 64 are two games that boys and girls have enjoyed for almost ten years. Both of the original four player versions of the games can be played on the N64, and in January you'll be able to snag yourself a copy of an enhanced edition of Mario Kart for the Wii.

While you may have troubles finding the originals for the N64 specifically, sequels for these games have been made for the Gamecube as well as the Wii. Both games are up to four human players, but computers can play as well if necessary.

Mario Party is your typical board-game-style game. With a range of playable characters and worlds to play on, your game is sure to be unique. The best part of Mario Party would definitely be the mini-games, bringing competitive fun to everyone as you battle against your friends or computers to take the win.
