South Florida is known for a lot of things. Sunny weather, sexy girls, hoppin' clubs and they will soon be known for a rapper named Flo Rida. With a tone similar to Nelly and with the energy of Outkast's Andre 3000, Flo Rida's uniqueness will definitely set him apart from the rest. Whether he is singing his hooks or writing his own lyrics, Flo Rida is a crowd pleaser and isn't afraid to get down...or get "Low." His itch for stardom would start with sunny weather during the summer when he would visit his cousin in Vero Beach.
"He had this Magic Mic instrumental thing," Flo said. "I rapped over it and I liked the way it sounded."
Flo Rida started rapping with a homegrown group called The Groundhogs when he was in the ninth grade and credits them as his main hip hop influences.
"We would hang out in the laundry mat, banging on tables, making beats," he said. "We went into the recording studio a couple of times and that's when I realized that I could take this seriously."
With a noted machine behind him, coupled with distinct originality, Flo-Rida captured the attention of many, most specifically Poe Boy of Poe Boy Entertainment. With Poe Boy, Flo Rida cut some mixtapes Money Right, Mr. Birthday Man and It's a Done Deal. His forthcoming studio album, Mail on Sunday is said to be released in 2008. The title of the album may seem a little unusual, but not to Flo.
"The name of the album is actually a spin off of my very first single called 'Birthday,'" he said. "I don't just want cake on my birthday, I want cake everyday and Mail on Sunday is like getting cake everyday."
