It's too bad that the name Boyz II Men is taken, because it would suit the Backstreet Boys more so than the original namesake. A lot has changed since 1997, when we were first introduced to the boys of Backstreet: Nick, Howie, A.J., Brian and Kevin. Today, like their fans, they have grown up and started families, recorded solo projects, appeared on reality shows and graced the Broadway stage all the while still putting their music and their fans first.
Considering the group is older, hopefully wiser and minus one Unbreakable, released on October 30, 2007 is surprisingly decent. The Boys still have indelible melodies and finely crafted three and four part harmonies that showcase how much Backstreet has matured and grown.
The Backstreet Boys spent a year and a half recording their sixth studio album Unbreakable, which marks their triumphant return to the pop music industry. The group's first single, "Inconsolable," is a classic piano driven, mid-tempo ballad reminiscent of some of the group's biggest hits. Nick's voice sounds stronger than ever, making it a great lead single because it's catchy and tugs at the heartstrings.
"Everything But Mine" is a great opening track, it will get you moving and believing that this might actually be a good album. "Helpless When She Smiles," is kind of like an updated "Anywhere for You," a sweet ballad that proves that the Boys still have the power to make girls go weak in the knees. "One in a Million" is one of the first tracks on Unbreakable that Backstreet penned themselves, and it sounds a bit like Ashlee Simpson's "L.O.V.E" at first. The verse's are a little unpolished but they make up for it with the chorus. The song is a nice change of pace from the rest of the album with a funkier sound but still keeping their BSB signature. "Panic," is another one written by the Boys. It has a really catchy beat and is definitely one of my favorites off of the new album; it's a very fun song and proves that you are never too old to want to shake your bootie.
