Our top ten picks from the past decade.

Hollywood has an annoying tendency to mess up amazing stories that reality already scripted for them. Luckily, these films got it right. All of the dynamic folks below impacted history in their own way, and they all made pretty good film subjects, too. Check out our picks for the past decade's most bitchin' biopics, and pay your respects.

Selena (1997)

Based on: Selena Quintanilla Perez

Played by: Jennifer Lopez

Fun fact: Known for being the fastest produced biopic ever, the film had full support from the Perez family with Selena's father Abraham as executive producer.

At first, the news of a Puerto Rican actress portraying a Mexican American ticked off activists, but it proved to be J. Lo's breakout role that put her career on the fast-track to stardom. The movie is based around the rapid success of Selena's singing career up until her tragic death at the hands of the president of her fan club in 1995.

Donnie Brasco (1997)

Based on: Joseph D. Pistone

Played by: Johnny Depp

Fun fact: The $500,000 bounty for Pistone's head that appears at the end of the credits has since been rescinded by the Mafia.

Based on the true story of the FBI agent that managed to infiltrate the Bonanno crime family, Johnny Depp's research for the film included several meetings the agent himself, Joseph Pistone. In the movie, Pistone gets so caught up in his cover as gangster wanna-be Donnie Brasco that it eventually consumes his entire life.

I must disagree. I thought Marie Antoinette was well done. It did
stray away from the actual history; however, it focused more on
the Marie herself... who she was. And it was only suppose to focus
on one aspect of her life. I also want to point out that it was
never proven that Marie said "Let them eat cake." That was just a
rumor that may or may not be true.
I was very disappointed with this film, as I am somewhat of an
Antoinette geek. The fact that the film stopped after the riot
into the palace annoyed me. Even though I watched the DVD extras
where Coppola explains that that's how she wanted it to end, to me
it felt as though they had cut off a huge chunk of her life, i.e.,
where Marie Antoinette and her children are in prison, her death,
etc etc.

Interesting portrayal for the 'modern' audiences I suppose...
Marie Antoinette sucked in terms of it keeping to the story. They
took the story of "Let 'em eat cake", denied that she said it, and
then threw in a whole bunch of parties and ridiculousness. It
would have been nice if they'd added more history in it... that's
what makes biopics interesting because they manage to accurately
and thoroughly portray the events.

I don't know... i didn't like it. i'll try and check out the rest
of them though. You kind of started with all the good easily
recognizable ones and got more obscure.

And it could just be my reading comprehension, but i think you
missed a few prepositions here and there: Like "Ray Charles
objected to a scene that depicted him as youngster that initially
did not want *to* take up piano."

No Biggie.

HRH
I think kicked out is a little far-fetched, everyone makes
mistakes.

Good selection of movies though! I seen one of those "A Beautiful
Mind" and loved it! There's tons on there I wanna see.
Jezze. Way TOO go KB. I agree with Khayos and everyone above her.
Maybe whoever wrote this article should get kicked out.
this aint fair i got called out for cussin when a racist person on
kiwibox was talking about Jena 6 and it made me mad because its
2007 and we still shouldnt be on this racist bs and yet they usin
the word bitchin when they could have said the most flamin'biopics
Bitchin has another meaning. Its a slang word for wonderful,
marvelous. That is why they are allowed to say it.
I'm with Amber on this one..

Why should regular users get attacked by the staff for one little
cuss word, yet reporters can toss words in articles?
Way to be hypocritical kiwibox.

No swearing, right?

But we can say Bitchin'

Is bitch allowed? Or is it just bitchin'?
i have seen 2 of those....many i am big time slacker!
Walk The Line is an amazing movie and I would recommend it to
anyone. The acting was great, and I love how the actors used their
own singing voices (joaquin phoenix and reese witherspoon both
have good singing voices).
Of the movies listed that I have heard of, they are incredible. Of
the movies listed that I have not, I will definitely try to watch
them soon!

Great article.
A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints is amazing<3 I looooove that
the movie. Coach Carter is another brilliant one. Okay, I admit, I
really like Channing Tatum. what's NOT to like? lol
i watch selena everytime it's on tv...it's addicting and just a
great movie all around.

the aviator was a great film.

walk the line has to be hands down my favorite. i love how they
had the actors sing with their own voices and not dub it over with
johnny or june's actual voice. very cool.
