Genius is not a word that should be used lightly. HOWEVER, "Human" by the Cheetah Girls (yes, the Cheetah Girls) is genius. The song samples Mozart's "Ode to Joy" fairly arbitrarily, and it's genius. Not because the sample is particularly well crafted, it's actually far from it, but because the target audience for the song is currently learning how to play that famous piece on their respective instrument. It is Disney showing the beauty of market analysis as art. With the success of the two High School Musical series, it is quite apparent that Disney knows their demographics. They know that tweens want to read a magazine supposedly geared towards 17-year-olds and watch movies about high school students frolicking. So where do the Cheetah Girls fit in? Some kids want music that is slightly more "urban" but not so threatening like most hip-hop or sexual like most R&B. The result is a pre-teen Pussycat Dolls of sorts, despite being themselves around the same age as most of the dolls.
