Tired of Atkins, The Zone and South Beach...we have just the thing

While most of us wish that the Kate Moss/stick thin model look would go out with the tides, odds are there are always going to be boney beauties to make us ladies long for a thinner frame. Although curves have become more appreciated in Hollywood, keeping up a healthy physique is not always easy. Whether you are a student or work full time, below are some helpful tips to help you stay healthy and possibly grow closer to your ideal form.

Scenario 1: You ate lunch hours ago, and dinner seems like eons away...the vending machine in the corner of the room slowly starts chanting, "Eat me!" Instead of succumbing to the evil that is convenient over processed food, create your own convenient healthy haven. Fill up the fridge with low-fat string cheese, fresh fruit, and crisp veggies with fat-free dip. Stock your locker with Nacho Cheese Quaker Quake Rice Snacks, Fiber One Chewy Bars in Oats & Chocolate or Oats & Peanut Butter, and Curves Bars and mini bags of 94 percent fat free microwavable popcorn in butter or kettle corn flavors. Most of these snacks will only set you back 100 calories

Scenario 2: Looks can be deceiving, especially when a package says "zero-calories," like spray butter and sweetener packages. Turns out, they are lying...but they do have less than five calories per serving. They're usually a great alternative to high-calorie products (like regular butter, oil, and sugar), but you need to know that the calories do add up, depending on how many servings you're actually taking in. If serving sizes are small, you could be eating multiple servings of something and taking in more calories than you thought.

This is very good information. And exactly what I needed to know.
I've been trying to lose weight for years, and have recently even
took up weight training with my boyfriend. I've started losing
some weight. But not much. Now thanks to this info, I can add
this to my know hows and continue to lose more and more weight.
THEY SHOULD TAKE ALL THE BAD JUNK FOODS OFF THE SHELFS
i am the skiniest person on earth so i dont have to worry about
any of that hahahahahaha.........lol
Just throwing this in.

"For each can of diet soft drink consumed each day, a person's
risk of obesity went up 41%." (source below)

http://www.webmd.com/diet/news/20050613/drink-more-diet-soda-gain-
more-weight

And it isn't in that particular article, but if you read in this
month's Self magazine, the issue is addressed and there is a
(sourced) statement that artifical sweeteners do indeed jack up
your body's ability to gauge calorie intake, so you're more likely
to eat too many calories later.

Plus... it's chemicals, man. Don't let yourself be fooled by a
culture that thinks everything has to taste powerful and exciting.
If you can break yourself of sodas and processed foods for just a
few weeks, I guarantee you'll lose weight and find that your
tastebuds have changed so you won't even want lab-created
food/drinks anymore. Really, food's natural flavor will be enough.
If you've got to sweeten things, using real sugar or honey in
moderation is so much better for you.
splenda has also been linked to migraines.. i know I can't eat it.
Splenda and sweeteners like that probanly won't kill you in the
long run (as any diabetic who loves soft drink will probably tell
you) but I think soda is best in moderation anyway. Things like
water and fresh juice are so much better for you. Some good tips
in this article!
Too much splenda can also cause diarreah :x
I agree somewhat with this article. However Crystal light is just
as bad as some of the diet sodas.Crystal light contains aspartame
or sucralose, which is really bad for the body. Here is a website on
it:

http://www.foodanddiet.com/NewFiles/splenda.html

Water is the best thing for you and it should never be
substituted. Also I agree with lunaKatrina, the things that are less
in calories and fat are actually bad for you because of the things
they put in them.
Great tips :)
And I agree with lunaKatrina about scenario three. It's so
important that you don't skip any meals.
And, if you're also exercising, you should be eating a certain
amount of calories each day, so then you have the energy to burn
off.
According to research, artificial sweeteners have been known to
cause cancer in lab rats. Also, Splenda allergies are a big factor
in artificial sweeteners. It's awful not being able to eat things
because they are sugar free BECAUSE of Splenda.
Sugar has 15 calories per pack. I think Splenda is by far the
better alternative if used in moderation. My dad is a diabetic and
his physician recommends Splenda over other things.

As for the article, it's common sense that if you eat better, you
can lose weight. But it's not just eating better, it's about
exercise too.
Good tips overall, I just have a slight problem with you
recomending chemicals--most of those things have no calories or
sugar or whatever because they use chemicals to make it that
way...I don't eat sugar free things anymore because that means
they have splenda in it and splenda fizzes when you put it in
*water* but that's just me

and scenario three! brilliance! most people don't realize that
and I'm glad you're telling people that, it's important! kudos!

and having some experience with the freshman fifteen, I'd like to
add something to it, while cafeteria food might be tempting (lucky
you if it is) and cheaper food is worse for you, there are plenty
of exercising options in college! Join a sports club,
intramurals, walk to classes everyday, get your friends to go
swimming or walking with you once or twice a week--boredom will
eventually overcome laziness, trust me
