The new craze in the music industry

It seems like everyone is trying to make a buck these days, including musicians with washed up careers. The latest protocol to get your name out in the media is to have a reality show on MTV or VH1 (it IS music television). While we have suffered through Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, The Ashlee Simpson Show, There and Back (Ashley Parker Angel), House of Carters, Flava of Love and Cheyenne, and now Viacom has mustered up even more fame hungry musicians for a new onslaught of guilty-pleasure reality TV.

Gotti's Way-- Once upon a time, in 1997, Irv Gotti was granted his own record company after he discovered rappers Jay-Z & DMX. He named the company Murder Inc. He has lifted Ja Rule, Ashanti and Lloyd to fame and established a wonderful life in New Rochelle, NY with his wife Deb and their three children. On January 3, 2003, the FBI raided the offices' of Murder Inc. and brought Gotti up on federal charges of money laundering for drug kingpins. The trial lasted three years and Gotti's label eventually dropped him, all the while his marriage began to fall apart. On December 2, 2005 he was acquitted of all charges.

The reality TV show Gotti's Way will follow Gotti and his crew as he begins the journey back from despair as he attempts his comeback career. He is also holding the reigns for Ja Rule's comeback as well as taking a long shot on a budding business relationship with Vanessa Carlton. But the series mainly revolves around Gotti and his family. It portrays a family as they try to continue forward as an unusual, loving unit. His wife eventually files for divorce, Gotti fights for his kids, while also fighting for his career. Watch the drama unfold on VH1.

Run's House--Who's house? Run's House...DJ Rev Run, one of the founding members of the popular 1980's rap group Run D.M.C, is now a doting father on one of the better reality shows on MTV. Run's House is about former Run-DMC member turned reverend, Rev Run and his big family. The Simmons family is living in his mansion in Upper Saddle River, N.J. with his second wife Justine, his two daughters Vanessa and Angela and his three sons JoJo, Diggy, and Russy. This family is not The Osbourne's or The Cleaver's for that matter, they are authentic in portraying family values and morals. Unlike many MTV shows, there is no sex, foul language, or violence to worry about.

Basking in the tradition of Doogie Howser and Carrie Bradshaw, Rev Run ends each episode in his bathtub, text messaging a "moral message" (a summation of the episode) to his friends. There's an element of comedy and sarcasm within the show that keeps it from being too serious or preachy. But again, this is not your average house, it's Run's House.
