If you happen to be riding in the van with Ingrid Michaelson on a long trip, you may hear some of her favorite artists through the stereo speakers, or you might hear Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
"Audio books help the time go by," she states.
This Indie singer has been a busy bee recently, two of her songs off of her new album Girls and Boys, officially released on September 18, 2007, were featured on the last two episodes of Season 3 of Grey's Anatomy. "Corner of Your Heart," was playing in the background when Izzy approached George about "what happened," and "Keep Breathing," was played in the last six minutes of the finale when Cristina finally realizes that Burke moved out.
After her songs appeared on the show, Michaelson's career hit the ground running and she began to achieve milestones that are unheard of for an artist not signed to a major label. Her music reached No. 13 on the I-tunes pop chart and her MySpace page registered a growing 10,000 hits per day and her lyrics were the No.1 and No.2 searches on Google.
"I was a fan of the show [Grey's Anatomy], so that made it even cooler," Michaelson said. "They have a really great bunch of people that work at that show, very respectful and just really into breaking new music and introducing people to new music."
Grey's Anatomy's music supervisor has an eclectic ear that allows him/her to choose songs that continue telling the story, while tugging at the heartstrings and introducing new talent to the world. Like her Grey's Anatomy's musical predecessors The Fray and Snow Patrol, Ingrid Michaelson's lyrics have molded the television shows' season finale and made her a household name.
