The Free People brand has evolved over the past 30 years from a single store in West Philadelphia to a world-wide phenomenon. The line is sold in over 1,000 specialty stores across the globe, on top of that, there are fourteen Free People boutiques already opened from the East coast to the West coast. With plans to open a store on Fifth Avenue in New York City in December, the number of stand-alone stores seems to be growing fast. So what's all the hype about? Though prices are lower than top designer brands, they definitely aren't what you'd consider a "bargain." The clothes just have a certain "je nais se quois" about them. They are flirty and feminine with a "wear anywhere, go anywhere" essence to balance them out. Most of the pieces can be layered- a shirt under a dress under a sweater under a coat (they even have a section appropriately titled "Layerables") with tons of accessories and cute shoes to boot (no pun intended).
