
I was watching the Green Bay/New York Giants NFC Championship Game with a few friends when it really hit me how far football on television has come. One of my friend's girlfriends asked us how they got those little colored lines down on the field. We were all a little confused at first until we realized she seriously didn't realize that they were inserted into the video feed via computer.
Watching football on television has become a much bigger process since the days of Howard Cosell calling from the booth. The players have benefited from technological advances as well. It's staggering to think about how many calls were botched by legally blind referees before instant replay. Although the game is still basically the same, here are a few fancy innovations that have helped improve the sport.
