After seeing previews and reading what P.S. I Love You was about, I never would've guessed that the director and writer of this film is a man. Richard LaGravenese is the director of the film and his movie is well written and has an excellent cast. P.S. I Love You is an adaptation of a Cecelia Ahern novel.
It's about a married couple Gerry (Gerard Butler) and Holly Kennedy (Hilary Swank). In the beginning of the movie they are arguing and we learn that they've been married ever since Holly was 19 years old (she turns 30 during the movie). After they fight and then make up, the next scene shows Holly and her family at Gerry's funeral, who has died of a brain tumor.

Devastated at the fact that she lost her husband, Holly stays holed up in her apartment until her family and friends go to cheer her up for her 30th birthday. There, Holly receives a birthday cake that says "Happy Birthday My Love," and it's supposed to be from Gerry. Upset because she thinks her friends are playing a joke on her, she realizes it's from Gerry and there is a tape recorder that tells her she will be getting letters in the mail to tell her things she should do to help her grieving.
Holly is sent letters that instruct her to do a whole bunch of things, from singing karaoke to visiting Gerry's hometown of Ireland. Along the way Holly meets a man with Asperger's syndrome to help her cope with her grief in addition to an Irish friend of Gerry's.
