Movies as Muses

Fashion-packed flicks to inspire your closet.

It's no secret that designers are constantly pulling ideas from movies and bringing them to life on the runway. After all, they need to get their inspiration somewhere, and we plebeians would never do. The films below showcase a variety of eclectic fashions, perfect for livening up a wardrobe that's feeling a little "meh." We're not suggesting you don a movement-restricting whalebone infused frock a la Ms. Antoinette, but hey, if the wig fits...

Cool and Quirky

The Royal Tenenbaums

Margot Tenenbaum laid it on thick with heavy kohl eyeliner, even heavier furs, a sharp bob, little kid barrettes and her trademark stripey tennis dresses. Oh, and let's not forget her accessory of choice- a cigarette in hand at all times.

Ghost World

Enid always managed to make a statement with her deadpan humor through her thriftstore duds, and even if that statement was as simple as, "Hey guys, there's a bloodthirsty carnivore on my chest!"

Amelie

We don't know how she did it, but Audrey Tautou's super short and choppy bob looked absolutely stunning on her, whereas a haircut like that would have most people looking like they lost a fight with Edward Scissorhands.

Wow, I had no idea Gaultier did the 5th element. That's one of my
all time favorite movies.

Marie Antoinette is quite possibly one of the most visually
stunning movies ever created.
Nice article!
I lust after Margot Tenenbaum's polo dresses.

And am I the only one whose haircut muse is Keira Knightley in
"Domino"?
The only movie I ever watched out of all these is Clueless.
