Fashion Diary Day 1:
It was a cold, rainy day at the Bryant Park Tents in NYC for the kick off of Fall 2008 New York Fashion Week. Stylists, editors and fashion students shook off their umbrellas and themselves from the monsoon like weather outside.
Nautica began the slew of collections bright and early with their Ice Sailing themed Men's Collection. Never one to exclude, Nautica kept in mind it's diverse audience of preps, jocks and the like. While the murmurs around my seat inside the show, were that the collection was "blah," "boring" and so forth, my philosophy is "if it ain't broke don't fix it." Sure, they included their signature colors: navy, yellow, white...they did, however include some new fabrics. A velvet smoking jacket, for one and spandex like long john's. The "second skin" layers, bold vests would suit the athlete of Nautica's demographic. The classic men's peacoat (a must have for all men), could be found in "boathouse grey" and rich brown hues.
Not to forget the Ice Sailing theme, blazers were paired with nylon windbreakers as well as the necessary winter accessories, scarves, caps that all were striped, blocked and graphic printed. But it was when Nautica stepped outside the "sailing" box that they were truly showing style and wit, with their creation of the velvet smoking jackets paired with jeans and a striped bow tie.

Highlight: The finale when all of the male models came out with their shirts off, to the joy of myself and the other women in the room (and possibly some men).
