The proverbial dust has settled on the 2008 Superbowl and my Giants (and by "my" I mean I jumped on a very welcoming bandwagon) remain as the last team standing! Still what people will remember is Tom Petty's rousing halftime show performance.
OK maybe not, since the performance was extremely un-noteworthy. The most relevant point is how weird and pale Petty looked (he made Casper look like George Hamilton). Otherwise it was overwhelmingly OK, which it seems like the Superbowl people goal. After Wardrobe Malfunction-gate and Prince pleasuring his guitar, it seems the Superbowl halftime people are squarely aiming for the middle of the road.
Though it should be noted the Superbowl was never really known for pushing an envelope. The result is there has been really only 5 halftime shows that have actually mattered, so I made this list:
5) 1991, New Kids on the Block

- With a reunion in the works it seems appropriate to have NKOTB on this least. More importantly, these boys from Boston were the first legitimate current artists to perform at the halftime show. Ironically enough the performance never aired during halftime, because the Superbowl took place during poppa President Bush's Iraq War. Without them paving the way, none of the other performances would exist.
