Kanye, Amy and...Herbie Hancock?

Which was a bigger surprise, Sunday, at the Grammys? Jazz legend Herbie Hancock snatching Album of the Year as critics and fans alike scratched their heads, or Amy Winehouse showing up for her performance and being sober?

Winehouse, who picked up five awards, including Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year, was subdued in her performances of "You Know I'm No Good," and "Rehab" via satellite from London. Winehouse also reminded viewers why she was a shoe-in for Hypocrite of the Year, singing "They tried to make me go to rehab, and I said no, no, no," less than a week removed from an extremely short stint in rehab. In her acceptance speech for Record of the Year, a weepy Winehouse thanked her family, label, hometown and "my Blake, incarcerated," referring to her jail house husband.

The night's other big winner was Kanye West who cashed in on half of his eight nominations, winning Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap Album and more, after putting on one of the night's best performances. West began with an intense, neon performance of "Stronger" with robotic backers Daft Punk before an emotional performance of "Hey Mama," dedicated to his late mother. He dedicated his win for Best Rap Album to her as well, shooting on the Grammy producers who tried to play him off stage during his tribute.
