Politics as usual with this Missouri-based quartet.
This New York-based quartet is prepared to rock in '09.
The hard rock quintet gets sinister on "Cinco Diablo."
Sticking to what they do best on their fifth album.

Simple Plan: New Self Titled Album

A Review

Simple Plan, the Canadian punk rock band, blasted onto the scene in 2002 with their hit single "I'd Do Anything." The song was a huge hit in the states, and the band went on to enjoy some more fame with hits like "Perfect," "Addicted," and "Welcome To My Life."

After a break from touring in 2006, the band finally returned with their third album. As a fan of modern rock, I fully intended on downloading the CD from the Zune marketplace, but was not expecting much. Having bought the first CD, I listened to the singles and forwarded through the rest, and by the sophomore album, I only downloaded two songs and moved on.

For the third album, I was completely blown away. From the first song, the single "When I'm Gone," I was completely hooked. One issue I quickly noticed was the band seems to have taken a different approach with their musical style. While it is still reminiscent of their older music, there seems to be added synthesized beats that gives there old sound a new twist. This sound is to be expected though, this time around the band worked with producers like Danjahandz (Justin Timberlake and Timbaland); as well as Max Martin, who has collaborated with American Idol superstar Kelly Clarkson.

Love the band, well the old stuff. This CD is pretty lame. All the
songs are about being away from the girl, why the girl shouldn't
leave them ect. Nothing funny, nothing Simple Plan about it. Maybe
it will grow on my after a few more listens, but is still a huge
dissapointment.
Great article, and I absolutely agree. Simple Plan have their own
style, they are not trying to copy anyone else. Their musical
style hasn't changed really, only improved. This is a really
terrific album, they seem to grow with each new one, and I look
forward to more music from them.
