J. Holiday's debut album Back of My Lac' is a self-indulgent exercise in which J spends over an hour expressing how awesome he believes his debaucherous lifestyle is. When in reality it is surely anything but. Holiday spends nearly half the album rapping about getting drunk or high and the lengths he will go to reach such an excessively intoxicating state. Needless to say the relentlessness of excess comes across as off-putting and often unintentionally hilarious. In addition to an abundant amount of drug references, Back of My Lac is riddled with a lot of other hip hop cliches. Misogynistic lyrics and hyper-sexualized ideals permeate the album, as does an overt glamorization of the ghetto-fabulous lifestyle. The Washington D.C. native espouses the virtues of his home district to little success. Titles alone, such "Pimp In Me," "Thug Commandments" and "Laa Laa" demonstrate such insipidness right off the bat.
