Since these documentaries had very limited releases, there's a pretty good chance you didn't have a chance to catch them. Taxi to the Dark Side was the big winner this year, but all of these nominated films, and their causes, deserve attention.
Taxi to the Dark Side
By Alex Gibney and Eva Orner
Alex Gibney was also nominated for a feature documentary he created about the crash of Enron. This film is about the case of an Afghan taxi driver who was beaten to death while he was under the watch of the U.S. Military. The driver had been in custody. The film examines the abuse that occurred during detainment and interrogation of political prisoners. The death was originally claimed to be of natural causes, but when Carlotta Gall, a reporter with the New York Times, investigates this claim, she finds it to be quite the opposite.
