The best thing about fashion is that it truly is in the eye of the beholder. Since the first stitch was sewn decades and decades ago, women have been searching for ways to present their inner selves through their exterior appearances. In doing so, we unavoidably look to those in the media and in the pages of magazines for inspiration and guidance towards finding our own fashion niche. While there have been innumerable fashion icons over the past centuries, here are a few that have had some sort of impact on each of us, and an even greater effect on what fashion means today.

Sarah Jessica Parker/Carrie Bradshaw: While her ensembles ranged from dreamy to downright dreadful, SJP always made us reflect on our own appearances with each new episode of the show that defined an era, Sex and the City. Some outfits made us cringe (striped knee highs and daisy dukes, anyone?) and some made us swoon (her Versace "dress of a thousand layers" in the final episode), Costume Designer Patricia Field ultimately made SJP the fashion icon she is today, providing the fashion inspirations that made us tune in week after week.
