American Idol: Top 16 Recap

This was the crucial week for the remaining 16 contestants to prove to America they're the best of the season. As the number of singers dwindles down, the time has come for voters to call in and vote for who they wanted to see in the Top 12. It's important to the performers as they go from losing 4 each week to only one, and those who make the Top 10 are guaranteed a spot on the Idol Summer Tour, so even if they don't win, they will be able to show off their skills. The semi-finals ended with songs from the 1980's, and even though all judges claim this once again to be the most talented group of singers ever, many still have yet to really prove they're worthy of the title American Idol.

The Obvious Winner
Even though some this week may have found his singing of Phil Collins "Another Day In Paradise" too pageant like, David Archuleta is right now the one to beat. He has to be very careful though over the next few weeks. While he has a huge following of fans calling themselves the Archangels dedicated to his success, the backlash against him is beginning to fester. Many, again myself included, find his adorable shock at being praised annoying, and would like to see him act his age for once instead of performing like a Stepford Son. He also has to watch out for the curse of being the fan favorite to become a shocking boot like many others from past seasons (Tamyra Gray, LaToya London, Constantine Maroulis, and Chris Daughtry) when fans assume he will be safe and try to save another.
