Jesse McCartney has said that he has gone through musical puberty. His first solo album, Beautiful Soul launched his career as a national singing star, with hits like the title track "Beautiful Soul" and "She's No You." "Beautiful Soul" reached No. 2 on the charts and the album went on to 1.5 million copies.
To say McCartney has grown up is an understatement, his new album Departure, due in stores May 20, 2008, is just that...a departure. From a not so stellar sophomore album, to his shot as Theodore in the Alvin & The Chipmunks movie McCartney has been keeping himself busy, and a low-key profile.
"There have been departures in my career, in my personal life," McCartney said. "I've learned a lot since doing my first couple of records. I think I've landed in the most comfortable place I've ever been musically as the style of music, my vocals and the lyrical content of the songs on this album."
Co-writing several songs on the new album, McCartney disposes his personal experiences from his relationships to being away from his family and his new life in L.A for our listening pleasure. Departure, he said, has a more mature sound than his previous albums as well as some star producers that have worked with the best in the biz.
I had the opportunity to interview McCartney when he was in New York, watch the footage below.
