When my editor dropped Mail On Sunday along with the soundtrack to Step Up 2 The Streets on my desk I felt a surge of hatred rush through my body. I calmly counted to ten and then turned to her and asked, "Do you hate me?" I'm convinced that the song "Low" is trying to kill me. If I turn on the radio in the car I'm assaulted with T-Pain's now famous lines "she got them apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur," and I swerve off the road into a ditch. If I'm at a club, the song will come on all of the shorties will proceed to get low low low, low low, low, low. If I'm sleeping the song will come to me in my nightmares.
So does Flo Rida (who takes his name from his home state; if you're not an idiot you figured this out a long time ago), have what it takes to be more than a one hit wonder? And he is quite a wonder. "Low" has become the most digitally purchased song of all-time, so it's no surprise that it's played in every clothing shop, record store and club in America on heavy rotation. I think I even heard it get play at a wake. There are apparently a lot of people out there who aren't tired of it.
All over Flo's album are guest stars. He's got T-Pain, Yung Joc, Weezy, Timbaland and Sean Kingston, guys who have had more than one hit, and producers who pump them out like they have factories made for them. He holds his own with Lil Wayne, but but Wayne sings more of the song than Flo does, so that doesn't even count. There's a good chance that he'll at the very least have another hit single with "Elevator," any weak song with a Timbaland beat can be a hit as OneRepublic proved.
