NYC VS. LA

The battle to end all battles

Like most New Yorkers, I hate Los Angeles. To me Los Angeles symbolizes everything wrong with America - shallowness, greed, materialism, warm weather. However, it should be noted that like many hating New Yorkers, my LA hatred is completely based on hearsay. I never have gone nor do I plan on even contemplating the thought because I despise every inch of its being. I know this is very close-minded, possibly even a little LA of me, but I am a New Yorker and I stick to my guns.

Still I cannot ignore a recent onslaught of LA culture to my fragile pop culture world. The most unavoidable is that it seems like the Hollywood starlet culture has taken over our consciousness. Only LA can make the world care where vapid blonds get drunk on a nightly basis and decide to clinically diagnosis Britney Spears through gossip magazine editors over trained psychiatrists. There is so much more that I felt that the best way to really compare the cities is look at what pop culture is saying about them. So here is a (extremely) biased comparison via Television, Film, and Music.

for NYC
Both cities are extremely overrated. It's really annoying that
people think there are only two cities of note in a country the
size of the United States.

You note that LA represents "shallowness, greed, etc." but note
none of New York's bad characteristics: dirty, overcrowded,
snobbish, rude people, etc.

(This isn't biased. I don't live in either city.)
