Peanut butter and jelly. Spaghetti and meatballs. Aliens and Rainbows?
Aliens and Rainbows is less of a stellar combination and more of a metaphor, at least that's the case for pop music's newest up and comer Ferras.
"Aliens and Rainbows is a metaphor, in a way, for a place that you go in your mind when you want to escape."
Growing up in a small, southern Illinois town, Ferras says he always felt out of place. A half Middle Eastern kid, with a hard name to pronounce and the fact that he could sing and play the piano without ever taking lessons, always made him feel like he never really fit in with every kid in school.
"I had come up with this concept, that I wasn't really from this planet," Ferras says. "I would run outside and be like, 'Alright I know there are aliens somewhere in this universe and I know you need to come and collect me right now so I can see.' That never happened (laughs), obviously."
Ferras' feeling of wanting to escape became abundantly clear during a particular incident when he was a child, thus birthing the name Aliens and Rainbows.
"One day my Dad asked me if I wanted to go to Disney Land, I was like 'sure' we get in the car and head out to the airport I find out once we were on the plane that he was kind if kidnapping me and taking me back to the Middle East," Ferras says. "It was a really interesting time of my life, at 5 years old being taken away from my Mom and the rest of my family and all of that."
