Politics as usual with this Missouri-based quartet.
This New York-based quartet is prepared to rock in '09.
The hard rock quintet gets sinister on "Cinco Diablo."
Sticking to what they do best on their fifth album.

The B-52s - Funplex

Eighties party band can still rock (lobster)

If you've been to a wedding, sweet sixteen, bar mitzvah, birthday party, family reunion or sports game since 1989, you've heard "Love Shack," and have likely danced to it. It's the perfect dance song. The right mix of pop harmonies with pulse-pounding beats and just the right touch of sexuality in the lyrics to pair off with the ridiculousness of Chryslers as big as whales and rusted tin roofs. It's been 16 years since the B-52s released an album, so it's easy to assume that anything the band puts out would be an embarrassment.

But Funplex, isn't a disaster at all. It's a playhouse of fun, a dance party in a can. The B-52s of old were pure '80s. They screamed "Do a lot of coke and vote for Ronald Reagan!" with their sound that no body else has been able to, or even tried to imitate. Somehow, Funplex throws back to that sound, but keeps itself firmly planted in 2008.

Eh, 'Love Shack' may be their most famous, but it gets on my
nerves. They have better songs! My favorite one is 'Rock
Lobster'.
