Prom Movies

From horrifyingly scary to horrifyingly sweet.

Prom always plays an important role in teen movies. Whether the main character finally gets together with the current love of her life or everyone dies in an inferno, prom is always the event where everything happens. While this may not be necessarily true in real life, it's always fun to start the pre-prom festivities with these movies that get everyone's hopes up about the event.

Carrie (1976)

Perhaps this isn't the best prom movie to start with, but it certainly is the most memorable. The movie, based on a Stephen King novel, starts with a mousy, shy girl played by Sissy Spacek who has telekinetic powers. She is tortured by her insane mother at home, who didn't tell her anything about puberty! Carrie is also ridiculed by her peers at school, but it isn't until prom night that everything goes down.

A girl who pities Carrie persuades her hot boyfriend to take Carrie to the prom, but a couple of delinquent students have a less charitable scheme. While she is being crowned Queen, they dump a bucket of pig's blood on poor Carrie, which enrages her and awakens her powers. Doors and windows slam, the fire starts, and by the end of the night, John Travolta explodes in a truck.

While most Proms don't typically end this way, there's always a possibility that the event won't go as planned.

pretty in pink and 10 things i hate about you.
"Carrie" was a wonderful movie. Even my mom enjoyed it.

I am looking forward to "Prom Night". The camera angles make it
seem like the stuff onscreen is happening to YOU! I LOVE movies
like that. Talk about interactive cinematography!
