Nervous about the big night? If you are, you might be experiencing some bad eating habits as well. Well, have no fear, because this article is about getting the comfort foods you crave, but without all those bad calories. Here's some helpful advice about eating less calories at home, at school, and even while eating out with friends. By the time your prom date comes along, your dress will fit even better than it did before:

Home

Instead of eating lots of potato chips, candy, chocolate and drinking soda, try eating:

Chopped up vegetables like celery and carrots (or opt for baby carrots) and use ranch dressing (or sour cream if you're a dare devil).

Rice cakes are a great snack too. Before you say rice cakes are disgusting, keep in mind that there are other flavors other than the original rice cakes your Mom used to buy.
Some tasty flavors include chocolate and cheese (not together), my favorite are the caramel corn. There should be a wide selection at your local Walmart super center and are very inexpensive, which is great for budget savvy teens trying to stay in shape.

Want to go the extra distance with rice cakes? Try out this recipe from the teen's vegetarian cookbook:

Original: Smooth on a layer of peanut butter and top it off with a layer of sliced bananas or instead try this with chopped vegetables instead of bananas for a protein snack. Or just lather on a layer of peanut butter and jelly for a very quick and easy low fat snack.

Caramel Corn: Slide on a layer of whipped cream and top it with sliced bananas and add some chopped nuts. This recipe is from the back of the bag of the caramel corn. If you don't like these recipes you can either eat the plain rice cakes (which are still full of flavor) or try your own recipe. Keep adding healthy things until you get the taste you want.

The idea for a rice cake pizza is such a great idea! And healthy
too!
Sharing food is a great idea. I find this to be one of the most
helpful tips for me. I still get to enjoy foods I love without
overindulging or feeling guilty!
I try to pick healthier items when eating out, but sometimes it's
fun to just eat what I want. Let's face it, sometimes I don't
want to share my onion rings. LOL
Muhaha.. I already do most of these already! I hate a lot of
salty/greasy foods. I love grilled turkey or chicken sandwhiches
and bottled water. But I never had rice cakes with *flavour* I
just may have to go try some :)
I found that restaurant food is too salty and high in fats. Even
you can become fat within two weeks.
Great tips on the food items. Even when dieting, you can still eat
out.
Share the food with others.
Rice cakes are great to eat. I eat them alot of times.
I love rice cakes. I have never had the caramel corn rice cakes,
but I bet they are delicious.
What can I say? I love rice cakes!
Eating grilled and baked foods are healthier and fried foods.
Thanks for all your comments everyone. I really love to see teens
like me enjoying the things I write. Thanks.. Again.
I AGREE THAT SUN CHIPS AND BAKED CHIPS ARE LESS GREASY BUT
SOMETIMES THE BAKED CHIPS CAN BE TOO SALTY. I ALSO DIDN'T KNOW A
TUNA SANDWICH WAS VERY HEALTHY.
the caramel corn rice cakes are good. =)
and yes, sharing onion rings is a definite DO if you must cheat.
;)
I looooove rice cakes! So the caramel corn sounds Great!!!!!!!!
The tips on being calorie-conscious at school are really useful...
a salad can be really bad for you if theres too much stuff. I like
the sandwich suggestions too...
I like the bring your own luch idea. Most foods in schools are
loaded with fat even though they are supposed to have gotten
healthier
That Caramel Corn sounds delicious!
I learned that veggie burgers are delicious. I'll try one!
I love the ideas about how to get the excess off just in case...I
especially like the walk around the mall part
This is great advice not even just for prom. Stress can add on
the pounds and remembering to keep healthy options in mind can
help keep the unnecessary pounds off
really don't like rice cakes but i absolutely think caramel corn
would be a great snack. I'll definitely be adding it to my
diet...!
Rice cakes are really good!
I do like the idea of eating pizza rice cakes! I wonder how long
it will hold though before getting soggy.
Hmm I love the idea off adding yummies to my rice cakes!
i love the idea of that snacking on rice cakes
I didn't know that grilled and baked foods are better for you than
fried foods. Next time I go out to eat i'll try that. Plus veggie
burgers are really good, I had one before and I thought I wasn't
going to like it but I did!
I actually like rice cakes, but yeah, beefing them up with
toppings would improve them
Every time my friends and I go out to eat we always end up at the
mall shopping and walking around because we feel better about the
huge pieces of cake we just devoured. I always thought that was
just an us thing but I guess not lol
It is a great idea to think about what you eat. I never thought of
that.
Caramel corn sounds so yummy. I think I'll make that as a snack
for myself later today.
These are great ideas, however, if you are really in the mood for
comfort food, try going for the 100 Calorie packs of cookies and
rice cakes. As for greasy foods, limit yourself. It isnt all about
eating right, its eating sensibily. Instead of that medium fry,
maybe only a small.
I don't like just eatting rice cakes but I never thought about
adding stuff to them.... hmmm that may just work.
I looove rice cakes. My favorite one is apple and cinnamon. The
boyfriend is even trying to eat them. He likes the caramel ones.
Peanut butter and jelly rice cakes sound yummy!
This article has some pretty good ideas. I've always eaten rice
cakes plain and never thought of adding anything to them.
Definitely worth a try if I can find any around here.
Another tip would be to try to cut down on your sodium (salt)
intake.
Great advice on eating out with friends. Be careful when sharing
food though that you aren't the one eating most of the stuff the
is "shared." Another tip when eating out try taking a sip of water
after every bite or so that way you will feel full long before you
have over eaten on the fried foods.
I think the rice cakes are a great idea. That's one of my favorite
dry snacks since it's not overly seasoned like potato chips are.
The bigger plus is that there's flavor without having to be deep
fried. Rice cakes have such a negative connotation built on
them... it's nice to see that someone's finding them tasty.
I found out that there are other ways to jazz up rice cakes, and I
want to try the pizza one.
I like the idea about sharing the fried foods.
I think these tips are general "healthy eating" ideas. There
should have been a tiny bit more emphasis on working out then just
the blurb at the end though.

I never thought about adding things to the top of a rice cake, but
it makes sense. You can get rid of a craving for something crunchy
and have some protein to fill you up and save a ton of calories at
the same time.
I learned some good tips how to eat out without compromising being
healthy!
I never thought about watching what you eat prior to the prom for
the purposes of not fitting your dress anymore
I found the tips for eating out very helpful as well as
agreeable.
Yet it is so hard to share my delicious fattening greasy fast
food.
man now i am starving.....i love english muffin pizzas :)
