Girls who Rock

The U.K.’s new generation of songbirds who bring girl power to another

Think "Girl Power!" and five singing lasses in bright outfits and saucy British accents come to mind. But with the rise of Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen as well as Joss Stone's come back last year, a new wave of women who rock have emerged from across the Atlantic and will be streaming into your headphones pretty soon - if they haven't already.

Kate Nash

At first glance, London's Kate Nash looks sweet in her girly outfits and bouncy ginger locks. But once she sits in front of the ivory, she sheds any sense of a shy girl and proves to be one sassy performer. Commanding the piano in songs like "Mouthwash," Nash's lyrics are straightforward and sarcastic and always sung with an obvious British accent. Although she's been compared to Lily Allen, this up-and-comer can stand on her own and has played to sold out crowds in the States. She's just started the U.S. NME Awards Tour and may hit a city near you.

Remi Nicole

After listening to Remi Nicole's "Rock N Roll," you may wonder what this young singer-songwriter is like. Not just a girl with a guitar, Nicole sings about every day life with a frankness that connects with her fans in a very true way. While at an office job in 2006, Nicole penned the pop acoustic track, "Go Mr. Sunshine." "My boss would just look at me...and say 'Rem, I know you hate the job, but can you at least pretend to like it?'" she wrote on her Web site. Improving on her music and playing around London, it might not too long till you hear of her on American soil.
