If you are taking a trip to London, you may want to stop in at Boots in case you run out of lip gloss, or "lippy" as the girls of the UK might call it. Don't be fooled, Boots is not the Payless of the UK, in fact, it is probably better described as the Sephora of the UK, but more affordable. If the name "Boots" sounds familiar it's because in 2005, their cosmetics became available to the youth of America in stores like CVS and Target.
Every now and then you see a screen printed tee with a brand on it--it will say "X Brand Name" and right under it, it will say established in 1843, or some other primitive year before serious technology. You can't help but wonder, how in the world did they make that (whether it's jeans or sewing machines) back then? Well, like all long lasting and respectable companies, Boots comes with a raw, hard working history.
It really did begin in the 1800's though. Boots was started in England by the Boots family. They began the store based on herbal remedies that they had long been in the family and ones that they had also learned about from various books. The remedies of the Boots family were popular in the poor area of England where they lived in because the laborers could not afford expensive medical care, and now it's an ever growing international seller of botanical cosmetics and glosses.

I am taking this little gem of the UK for granted! I love the
Boots card - points mean prizes!
Ahem.
