Day 26: Exclusive Interview

Diddy's band is blowing up.

As myself and my fellow editor approached the room where we were set to meet with Day 26, we could make out the sounds of singing, yelling, and hysterical laughter. Had the door not been labeled "Artist's Lounge," we would've easily mistaken this raucous affair for a frat party instead of the headquarters of P. Diddy's own Bad Boy Record label.

Unsure of what to do, we waited patiently outside for our turn to see what all the fuss was about. Suddenly, the door burst open and a man in a suit with a head full of dreds extended his hand and said, "I'm Screwface!" Following him was Brian Andrews, Michael McCluney, Qwanell "Q" Mosley, Robert Curry and Willie Taylor, collectively known as Day 26.

Screwface doesn't perform in the band, but as their manager it's his job to keep the group on track and focused at all times. Not that they don't share a common goal. They are, after all, a result of Diddy's extensive search to put together the ultimate guy group from the fourth installment of MTV's Making the Band. That's right, these are the guys who had to fetch a cheesecake in Brooklyn, amongst other strange and rigorous tasks, in order to prove how badly they wanted to succeed. Out of the original 58 performers competing on the show, Day 26 was the final five left at the end of the season. Their name comes from the actual day that the group was formed - August 26, 2007 - the day that they remember as the day it all came together.

Day 26 have since cut their debut self-titled album, featuring the single, "Got Me Going." Now they're embarking on a full-fledged tour of the country, with hardly any time off for themselves. Every spare moment they have is devoted to promoting band and keeping the fans happy. Are they crazy? Are they workaholics? In a sense, yes. It's all in the name of the music, the common goal to impress the fans and impress their mentor even more.

But we wanted more answers, so we asked the band themselves. Check out the video below as Kiwibox gets all the behind the scenes dirt on living together, the upcoming tour, and what really gets these guys going.
