more from this author With so many social issues coming to the forefront, it can be a bit overwhelming to figure out which organization to donate to? What cause should you support? How will you even find the funds to support it? ![]() Blake Mycoskie realized that helping out can be as simple as buying a pair of shoes. The California-based designer and chief shoe giver started the shoe company TOMS two years ago after finding so many children in Argentina walked the street shoeless during a trip he took there. With a crazy idea to give these kids what could be their first pairs of shoes, he decided that for every shoe he would sell, one child would receive a pair of shoes, and TOMS was born. “TOMS is an expression that people actually care,” Mycoskie said. With 65,000 shoes so far distributed to kids all over the world, Mycoskie produced a film documenting his “2006 Shoe Drop” in Argentina. During NYC’s Tribeca Film Festival, green shop, Samples For (eco)mpassion, screened the documentary on April 30 that not only exposed everyone to the TOMS cause but also introduced them to an array organic and free trade products attendees could sample or even take home. Chocolate snack Sweetriot could give Hershey's a run for its money, and Guyaki Yerba Mate tea quenched everyone’s thirst and was also made into some interesting mixed drinks. There was even a snack bar that contained veggies and fruits covered in chocolate. Page 1 of 3 ![]() [1] [2] [3] |
