The Kite Runner

It's been critically acclaimed as both an amazing book and movie. Contrary to the seemingly harmless title, this movie deals with a lot of serious issues. Two childhood friends are torn apart by a country in a war, while one moves away to America and the other is left behind. Amid the strife, these friends find one another again and attempt to try and see a brighter future for Afghanistan. This one is good if your mom is interested in foreign affairs.

IMAX Movies for Mom

Moms deserve a special day out, and she's probably the guaranteed best date you can have. But remember not to make her pay! Go to Imax.com to find the nearest IMAX theatre to you and check out what's playing there. Turn into a date for you and your mom, and your other siblings also. A lot of times they show concerts or really cool films that deal with nature or astronomy. Right now, Dolphins and Whales is showing, and Speed Racer and Kung Fu Panda are coming out very soon!

Independent Films

If you have a mom that has is a little unique, or isn't into the mainstream type of movies, take her to an independent movie theater so she can see movies that not everyone will have seen! It will give her a pretty cool feeling. There are different locations for indie films, so you'll have to Google, or check the yellow pages for the closest indie theater to you. Then, you can check out the movies showing. Right now Mister Lonely, Flight of the Red Balloon, and Up the Yangtze. Be sure to check out summaries and reviews of each one though, because sometimes indie films can be a little out there!
