What the Speed Racer lacks in plot (the movie almost moves too fast to make sense), it makes up for with incredible, nearly seizure-inducing visuals. The candy-colored environments, from flashbacks to the Racer family household, look good enough to eat. The races themselves are dizzying and video-game like, so if you're prone to motion sickness you might want to think twice about seeing this on IMAX.
Christina Ricci is adorable as Speed's girl, Trixie. She slides right into the role, and a number of ultra-cute day-glow outfits as well. Emile Hirsch just has 'heartthrob' written all over him, using his naivete to his advantage for the role of Speed. John Goodman and his mustache have the old-fashioned and burly yet loveable dad thing down pat. Susan Sarandon has a 1950's housewife thing going on as Speed's nurturing mother. And plenty of wacky hijinx, from O.D.'ing on candy to stowing themselves away in Speed's car, are abound with Paulie Litt as little bro Spritle and his primate pal Chim Chim.
Speed Racer is a zany family flick, made to capture the attention of kids of all ages. It's a CGI overdose, but you're supposed to suspend reality for these types of things anyway. Take your younger siblings to see this, and they'll love you forever. And yes: the monkey throws poop.

I actually thought this movie was good. I don't care if nobody
cares about it. I love Speed Racer and I'll probably watch it ten
times in the theatres this summer.
