Back in 1991, when she was diagnosed and basically told to wait for the worst, Nancy Davis was faced with two choices. Her first was to admit defeat.
MS is a disease that attacks the myelin sheath surrounding our nerves. It leads to a person's loss of control of all their muscles which then can cause uncontrolled movements or lack thereof, bladder, speech or vision problems and exhaustion. In some these symptoms are almost unnoticeable; in others it can completely cripple them.
Nancy was told "she would be lucky to operate a remote control."
She opted for the second option. She immersed herself in the disease. Two years later she created Race to Erase MS to fund her other program "The Nancy Davis Center Without Walls," which ultimately became "the top seven MS institution" allowing for medical researchers to work and collaborate together for a cure, and in 2006 she became an author when she wrote Lean on Me: 10 Powerful Steps to Moving Beyond Your Diagnosis and Taking Back Your Life. Did we mention she has five children and a black belt?
"I take very good care of myself," Nancy says. "I always take lots of vitamins, exercise and do everything to keep my immune system strong. I always try to stay positive and eliminate as many stressful situations and negative people from my life as possible."
