The moon was shining and through the glow I saw the silhouette of a boy standing at the edge of the beach. I ran stealthily to the big rock and crouched down. Yes, I know I could of flashed, but adventure is fun every once in a while. I set my gaze on him and he turned around suddenly. It was the same kid I saw earlier today. He looked scared, and looked around for someone. I continued to watch him as he snuck away, towards me. He must be heading towards the rock. Nervously, I stepped out.
"Hey, are you the kid who moved in here?" I asked, my confidence lying with me in the shadows.
He yelped and ran towards the other side of the rock. I walked around cautiously to the other side, but found nothing but footprints leading to the other side.
"Um, I already saw you. No need to be shy, I won't bite." I said, that last part a little joke to myself.
I heard a sigh and he stepped out from the other side.
"Please, pretend you didn't see me. Please please please." he said in a whimper.
I turned to face him.
"Are you ok?"
"No. Please, act like this never happened."
I noticed that his voice was getting more muffled.
"Why? Dude. I have a compromise. You tell me what's going on here, and I will pretend this little rendezvous never happened." He sighed.
"Ok, but you can't tell anyone."
"Ok."
"Well, my mom pretends I don't exist and I snuck out and I figured you wouldn't think you actually saw someone earlier and... Please, my mom can't know I snuck out." he said, his voice still muffled.
"Whoa."
"Yeah."
"Why would she ignore you? Do you live in the attic or something?" He nodded.
"This isn't happening, this sounds something straight out of a V.C. Andrews book. Is there some inheritance, or are there siblings with you? Or powdered doughnuts?"
