Like Seattle, Austin and Atlanta are to the U.S., Leeds is one England's major music areas. Even though unsigned local bands make up most of its scene, there are a few who busted out of obscurity, including Soft Cell (known for the '80s hit "Tainted Love"), Kaiser Chiefs and even '90s one-hit-wonders Chumbawumba. And like the Leeds musicians before them, Your Vegas is showing the world what they can do with the release of their self-titled debut.
When you first look at the tracklist, you'll notice that there is a song named after the group. But what you may not know is that the inspiring tune, a candidate for a spot on your summer road trip mix, came before the band settled on a name. "It was one of our first songs," said Coyle Girelli, Your Vegas' lead singer, on the band's website. "'Your Vegas' seemed to sum us up. It's about escaping to a different place, wherever that is." Taking that advice, Your Vegas left Leeds, settling in New York and claiming it as their destination of escape.
After listening to Your Vegas for the first time, you'll realize that the album doesn't sound too different from what's already out there. To their credit, there are a few differences. But it's as if The Killers backtracked to the '80s, took a detour to the '90s and decided hit the recording studio.
