Sprint's Samsung Instinct

iPhone, your days are numbered.

Whether you're staring down fellow pedestrians' iPhones in envy or in contempt, it's always good to know there are other options out there besides Apple's $800 touch screen machine. And if you happen to be in the market for a new phone, you've come to the right place. Allow us to introduce Sprint's Samsung Instinct.

Calling the Instinct a cell phone is sort of like calling P. Diddy a clothing designer: while not untrue, it paints a very small part of a much bigger picture. I myself am a bit leery of Samsung phones after having to replace several of my own (they really need to start making cell phone grip tape for those of use with butterfingers). But the Instinct promises to be completely different, inside and out.

The Instinct looks a bit like the iPhone, but it isn't used like one. The screen is a smidge smaller, but the keys on the keyboard interface are bigger than the iPhone's. The iPhone uses a capacitive touch screen, meaning it relies on the heat of your fingers, but the Instinct does not so you have the option of using a stylus to avoid smudging the screen.

It comes with Sprint Mobile Broadband, so it's faster than a lot of smartphones. Web browsing allows for HTML, and you can enlarge the browser so you're not stuck looking at everything in a clumped together mobile mode. If you still need to see more, you have the option of panning an entire webpage with a camera.
