Getting over a relationship is an experience most of us have to go through at some point in life. Unfortunately, it's not that easy. Breaking up with someone is painful. No matter if you're the one who wants it or not, it still hurts. There are times when It can be difficult to foresee a time when the pain will go away. Luckily, there are ways to avoid the post-breakup slump.

The first thing to do is the hardest part of the process. You need to give yourself time to grieve over the loss. At this point, you are allowed to feel sadness, anger and shock. After a while you will eventually accept the break-up whether you agree with it or not. If you are the one who was dumped, try not to bother your ex. It will only irritate them and make the chances of the two of you becoming friends seem slimmer and slimmer. Just like you, he/she will need time to grieve and it is only fair that you give it to him/her.
Next, try to take any pressure or expectations off of yourself to get over it quickly. It is hard to tell how long it will take to get over a relationship. There is no set "rule" or "formula" to determine how long it should take you. It is different for everybody. You have to keep in mind how much the relationship meant to you, how serious you were with the person you were seeing, what plans you had for the future, if any, and how long you were dating them.
