When I look back on my childhood, I can not even begin to count the hours spent in front of the television. In every television sitcom, there is some sort of father-child relationship. With the impression that television has on our youth, we sometimes found ourselves wondering if fiction was better than reality and often it seemed it was. Problems would be solved in the span of 30 minutes to an hour. Of course, it never is, because no one can replace our own fathers and we wouldn't want them to. But they were always nice to have for a good laugh or two. With Father's Day fast-approaching it is time once again to honor these actors and their memorable characters.
10. Jason Seaver - Alan Thicke - Growing Pains
Growing Pains featured one of the first stay-at-home dads on television. With his wife, Maggie, always out on various journalism jobs, Jason worked out of the house in order to keep track of his two mischievous boys and that brainiac, Carol. This set up led to many comedic moments and opportunities or lessons learned.
9. Homer Simpson - Dan Castellaneta - The Simpsons
Despite the Simpson's satirical nature and Homer's crude nature, Homer has always done his best as a father. His at times careless personality along with his belching, beer drinking and crude drinking make him appear like an unfit father but it is indeed all a cover. When it comes to the kids, Homer is really a softie. He does enjoy bonding with his son, Bart and daughters, Lisa and Maggie. I truly believe that he does his best to show he cares for them. What other father would demand his son cut school in order to steal grease together?
