Bruce and Susan Miller are like any other ordinary married couple, but on Thursday night's premiere of the CBS drama Swingtown, the Miller's realize that their marriage and lifestyle are about to be corrupted. Swingtown takes place in the suburbs of Chicago in the year 1976, the eve of the bicentennial. The Miller's decide to trade in their humble home for a swankier place in a rich neighborhood across town. They soon realize that they may only be a mile away from their previous home, but the lifestyle they are used to living is now miles in the distant past.The Miller's and their two children, an adolescent boy, BJ and a teenager daughter, Laurie, move across the street from the liberal Decker's. Grant Show of Melrose Place fame plays Tom Decker who is married to the very beautiful, Trina. When the audience is first introduced to the Decker's Tom has brought home are a flight attendant to have sex with. The Decker's soon spot their new neighbors, the Millers across the street, and are thrilled that there is fresh meat in the neighborhood, and they hope to introduce them to the swinging lifestyle. They invite the Miller's to a party at their house, and introduce them to their way of life.
