What do utilitarianism, lollipops and June 10, 2008 have to do with one another? Two words (and a number): Tha Carter III.
Thanks to an internet leak, Lil Wayne's sixth solo album had been in circulation for about two weeks prior to its slated release, and subsequently, it fueled a wave of responses in the blogosphere and the music world. Many of the responses were critical of Weezy's latest work, for various reasons. Some believed that it pales in comparison to the majority of music Lil Wayne has put out in the last year; others find the material unfocused and uninspired. Some still don't understand all of the hype and accolades that presently surround Lil Wayne.
But Tha Carter III is actually much smarter than it appears to be. Like the Birdman Jr. himself, this album is confident of its merits and patient enough to wait until the rest of the world can ascertain what it already knows.
