Rock was the most prominent genre at Bonnaroo, with festival headliners like Pearl Jam, My Morning Jacket and Metallica taking the main performance time slots. The crowd was already aware of that fact, being that most of the attendees looked like they'd been to a few rock shows in their time (hint: Woodstock and previous Bonnaroo t-shirts were visible at all times). We got overwhelmed by rock acts, and although there are too many to discuss, here are some of the best ones we saw while visiting Tennessee.
Metallica - 6/13, 9:00 - 11:30 P.M., What Stage
I was a bit weary about seeing these metal rockers take the stage, being that metal is the type of music that, if listened to long enough, could actually warp my fragile mind. So going into this show, I wasn't sure what to expect. Defying my snobbish attitude towards them, Metallica proved that they're one of the hardest and amazingly skilled metal bands around. The group mostly stuck to old material, but they shredded their instruments with renditions of "Enter Sandman," "One" and "For Whom the Bell Tolls." Is it safe to say they altered my jaded view of metal? I'll go with maybe for now, considering it might take one more Metallica viewing to convince me that metal is the way to go.
