Looking for a modern band that has the sound of classic rock groups? Search no further: My Morning Jacket is the band for you. The quartet of rockers have been doing their thing since they released their debut in 1999, and after releasing four studio and one live record, they're back with their newest and best album Evil Urges. The disc, which comes after their 2005 effort Z, is a glorious gem filled with grassy harmonies, '60s rock conformities and dexterous craftsmanship, making it one of the standout records this year.
There's the classic rock-sounding jam "Thank You Too," which has grinding guitar lines and a lush string section, recalling the full-out melodies of The Beatles while throwing in the grit of monster rock. "Sec Walkin" has a touch of grass country sensibilities, along with lead singer Jim James' deep croons that embodies the warm vocals of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Also, "Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Parts 1 and 2" are sprawling tracks, but as they evolve over their lengthy durations, they suck you in with their reverbed instruments and hazy vocal lines.
