4. Keep Your Eyes In CheckIf you're the type to go to the mall and check out all your potential mates window-shopping across the walkway, you're going to have to keep the urge at bay! Many people will feel insulted that you are checking out their competition, especially if they are trying hard to keep your attention and your eyes keep wandering. Bottom line: focus on the potential mate at hand. If you're simply not interested in your date, be friendly about it, and when questioned about a second date, be honest and let your date know that although you had a great time, you don't see much coming from the date other than a friendship if they're interested.
5. Stay Off Your Phone
How annoying is it to be attempting a conversation with someone while they are furiously text-messaging a friend? Before your date, tell your friends that you will give them all the details about the date after it is over, and ask politely that they not try to contact you while on the date. There's nothing more rude than communicating constantly with a friend while a date is by your side. Show some respect and pay attention to your date!
6. Be Yourself!
A common dating mistake is to build your reputation and accomplishments far higher than you even imagined possible previous to the date in an attempt to impress even the most picky of potential mates. Resist the temptation! Don't stretch your accomplishments or lie about your knowledge (or lack thereof) of Organic Chemistry. If a relationship results from this date, at some point in the future you will have to correct the lie and perhaps lose some trust from your mate. If you aren't attending Harvard while holding down a full-time job (who would find time to hit the mall with that lifestyle, anyway?), don't tell stories about it! It's okay to be a small-town kid with a brother and a sister, a part-time job at Denny's, and a full-time education at your local community college. There's nothing shameful about being yourself, and your perfect mate will find nothing wrong with the fact that you've never been skydiving and don't like roller coasters.
Happy dating!
