This 4th of July, there's no better way to celebrate our countries Independence from Great Britain than by recognizing some of 2008's most influential independent bands. Ironically, the country from which we emancipated ourselves is the home to some of the most rockin' indie bands today. Here are some top picks to help you rock out this 4th of July.
Arctic Monkeys
Arctic Monkeys are an English indie band from Sheffield. Their 2006 debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not became fastest selling debut in UK history. Their follow-up Favourite Worst Nightmare didn't hit as hard as the first, but it's still an intense record to play this July 4th. With their pugnacious riffing guitars and Alex Turner's intoxicating sing-along tunes, Arctic Monkeys will transform your backyard party to a wild night out with the lads and lasses at a London Pub. Although we left our UK friends in 1776, Arctic Monkeys should not be left out of our indie collection.
