Issue #4: The Intermingling of Church and StateNow more than ever, the word "God" can be heard in political speeches across the nation and religious affiliation is almost always considered in the mind of every presidential election voter. If there really were a true separation of church and state, religion would not be a part of elections at all and one's religious affiliation would remain a mystery throughout the campaign and the entire term served in the government by the candidate. For some, there are exceptions to this rule. Many voters like to know the religious affiliation of their candidates because it helps better identity some other personality traits that could be the deciding factors in the election.
Because of the lack of separation... numerous laws have been proposed and some enacted to ban controversial action topics such as gay marriage, abortion, polygamy and sometimes even illegal immigration. Should the government have a say in these actions? According to the Declaration of Independence, no, although we have seen a breach of contract in this and other important documents such as the United States Constitution where basic rights are imposed upon by religious activists.
