Issue #4: The Intermingling of Church and State
Now more than ever, the word "God" can be heard in political speeches across the nation and religious affiliation is almost always considered in the mind of every presidential election voter. If there really were a true separation of church and state, religion would not be a part of elections at all and one's religious affiliation would remain a mystery throughout the campaign and the entire term served in the government by the candidate. For some, there are exceptions to this rule. Many voters like to know the religious affiliation of their candidates because it helps better identity some other personality traits that could be the deciding factors in the election.

Because of the lack of separation... numerous laws have been proposed and some enacted to ban controversial action topics such as gay marriage, abortion, polygamy and sometimes even illegal immigration. Should the government have a say in these actions? According to the Declaration of Independence, no, although we have seen a breach of contract in this and other important documents such as the United States Constitution where basic rights are imposed upon by religious activists.

Btw, the part about the Civil War is completely wrong and, among
other problems, the Civil War was fought between the United
STATES, they were considered states after 1783, the end of the
revolutionary war.
Wow, this article is way too cynical - even for me. Economies go
through cycles - its not *just* the government having problems, or
not working for us. Americans are still way better off than most
of the rest of the world - even with all the problems the US has.

But... unemployment is not at a record high, that was during the
Great Depression. Some of America's cockiness comes from the fact
we preserved democracy in Europe, twice and helped rebuild stable,
thriving, democracies. We prevented a WWIII and a nuclear war.

American law is also based on Common Law which is why it seems
there is intermingling in church and state, but its more societal
norms. Like... we also won't support virgins being sacrificed to a
deity - its not religious persecution. There's always a dialogue
between society and laws though - who is leading who - laws helped
the Civil Rights Movement, laws were ahead of most of society.

The Constitution isn't meant to be followed to a T - if it doesn't
say it well then the government shouldn't intervene - its the
spirit of the Constitution, liberty and equality that we are in
constant pursuit of.
